Dunmow Development Pays Tribute with Poppies

Dunmow, Essex - The landscape surrounding Dunmow's iconic Flitch of Bacon is set to be transformed this Remembrance Sunday, not by the traditional scarlet of autumn leaves, but by a sea of red poppies. Dunmow Development, a leading local developer, has undertaken a unique initiative to honor the fallen and pay tribute to the sacrifices made during times of war.

The project, aptly named "Poppy Fields," will see thousands of hand-crafted paper poppies displayed across Dunmow's public spaces, including the historic market square, parks, and along key thoroughfares. This poignant installation, meticulously created by volunteers from the local community, serves as a powerful visual reminder of the human cost of conflict.

“We felt it was important to do something meaningful to mark Remembrance Sunday,” explains Sarah Jones, Managing Director of Dunmow Development. “The poppy is such a powerful symbol of remembrance, and we wanted to create a project that would engage the community and allow everyone to participate in honoring our fallen heroes.”

The initiative has already garnered significant community support. Local schools have embraced the project with enthusiasm, incorporating poppy-making into their art and history lessons. Residents have also come together to craft poppies at various community gatherings, fostering a sense of shared remembrance and unity.

Beyond the visual impact, the project will also raise funds for the Royal British Legion, a charity dedicated to supporting those who have served in the Armed Forces. Donations can be made through a dedicated collection box at the heart of the poppy installation in the market square.

“We hope that the 'Poppy Fields' project will inspire reflection and provide a tangible reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedom," added Jones. “We encourage everyone to visit the installation and join us in honoring the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our country.”

The 'Poppy Fields' installation will be unveiled on Saturday, November 10th, and will remain in place throughout Remembrance Sunday, serving as a striking visual testament to the spirit of remembrance in the heart of Dunmow.
