Batley and Spen MP Kim Leadbeater has thrown her support behind the Assisted Dying Bill, advocating for a "compassionate and dignified" end of life for individuals suffering from terminal illnesses.

The bill, currently making its way through Parliament, aims to legalize assisted dying for adults with a terminal illness who meet specific criteria, including having a prognosis of less than six months to live and demonstrating the capacity to make informed decisions.

Leadbeater, whose sister Jo Cox was tragically murdered in 2016, stated her belief that individuals should have the right to choose how they die, especially when facing a prolonged and painful decline. "This is a deeply personal issue for me," she said, "and I have seen firsthand the immense suffering that some individuals face in their final days. Allowing terminally ill people the option of a peaceful and dignified death is an act of compassion, not a threat to life."
