Mowbray: "Hardest Year" After Hibs Exit

Former Hibernian manager Shaun Mowbray has admitted the year since leaving Easter Road has been the "hardest" of his career.

The 55-year-old parted ways with the Edinburgh club in May 2022 after a turbulent spell in charge, ending a five-year association with the club that saw him lead them to both the Scottish Cup and the League Cup. However, his final season was marked by a drop in form and a series of disappointing results, ultimately leading to his dismissal.

Speaking candidly about his experience since then, Mowbray revealed the emotional toll of his departure from Hibs, stating, "It's been the hardest year of my career. It's been a tough year personally, professionally, and in terms of my footballing career."

He admitted that the intense scrutiny and pressure of managing a club like Hibernian took a toll on his mental well-being. "The demands of the job, the pressure, the expectations, the scrutiny… it all gets to you after a while. It's a very intense environment."

However, despite the difficulties, Mowbray remains passionate about football and eager to return to the dugout. He has been linked with a number of managerial positions since leaving Hibs, but has yet to make a decision on his future.

"I'm still very much committed to the game," he said. "I'm working hard on my coaching and I'm waiting for the right opportunity to come along. I'm not in a rush, but I'm ready to get back involved."

Mowbray's departure from Hibs marked the end of an era for the club. He had become a popular figure among the fans, and his achievements at the club will undoubtedly be remembered for years to come. But despite the success, his exit was a painful experience for both the club and the manager.
