St Helens Embrace, But No WSL Win Yet for Liverpool

Liverpool FC Women are enjoying a newfound sense of community in their new home at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens, but the search for their first Women's Super League (WSL) win continues.

The Reds, after spending several seasons at the Select Security Stadium, moved to the 13,000 capacity St Helens ground in December 2022, hoping to tap into the passionate fanbase of the nearby town. The move has proven to be a success in terms of attracting new supporters.

"There's a real buzz around the team," said one long-time Liverpool fan. "The St Helens fans have really embraced them, and the atmosphere at the games is fantastic."

Indeed, the team has seen an increase in attendance figures since the move. They have also actively engaged with the local community, hosting events for young girls and participating in school visits, further strengthening their bond with St Helens.

However, the on-field results have not yet reflected the growing enthusiasm. Despite a strong start to the season, Liverpool have yet to record a WSL win. This is a disappointment for a club with ambitions of reaching the top of the league.

Manager Matt Beard acknowledges the team’s struggles but remains confident in their ability to turn things around.

"We are still a young team, and we are learning every week," Beard said. "We are creating chances, and we are working hard in training, so I am confident that the results will come."

Despite the lack of victories, the move to St Helens has injected a fresh sense of optimism into the club. The growing fanbase and the team's commitment to community engagement provide a solid foundation for the future.

The question now is, can Liverpool translate their positive off-field momentum into WSL success? Time will tell, but the journey has certainly become more exciting with the embrace of St Helens.
