Topley Out of West Indies T20 Series With Knee Injury

St. Lucia, October 27, 2023: England pacer Reece Topley has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the ongoing T20 series against the West Indies due to a knee injury. The left-arm seamer sustained the injury during the second T20I at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia.

Topley, who was a key component of England's bowling attack in the recently concluded World Cup, suffered the injury while bowling in the eighth over of the West Indies innings. He was immediately taken off the field, and scans later confirmed the severity of the injury.

“Reece has unfortunately suffered a knee injury and has been ruled out of the remainder of the series. He will be returning to the UK for further assessment and treatment,” said England team management in a statement.

The 30-year-old Topley had a stellar World Cup campaign, bagging 11 wickets in five matches, including a career-best 6/24 against New Zealand. His absence is a significant blow to England's bowling attack, especially in the absence of Mark Wood, who is also nursing a knee injury.

England currently lead the three-match series 1-0 after winning the opening encounter in St. Lucia. The third and final T20I is scheduled to take place on October 29th at the same venue.
